Often skeptical people say, ”Oh, that tower we’ve seen a hundred times and heard about it, nothing new in it!”. Yes, you heard and saw, but did not do so and no results. After all, the music of the Symphony exist in the form of notes for everyone, but virtuoso performers all over the world value its weight in gold.
The reason for writing this article was the article “The fate of the monastery of the Shirvanshahs”, published in the newspaper “Our Century”, which began further research. She came to me accidentally, and I highlighted the one paragraph, which stated that under the earth on the territory of Icheri Sheher is an extensive network of underground utilities, radiating from the Palace of the Shirvanshahs in the direction of the Maiden Tower and the ruined tower Synyk gala, at the depth of from three to ten meters. Next, I became aware that arrived in Baku the Japanese and carried out a seismic analysis, right near the Maiden Tower. Their research showed that under the Maiden Tower at a depth of 10 meters is an unknown room. Further searches were suspended. And for some reason I decided to poke around and find at least some written historical evidence, which would be referred to this facility. But to no avail.
After a while, I was interested in the book of Isgender Tagiyev “Palace of the Shirvan shahs, or Khanaka, S. Y. Bakuvi?”. I was wondering what this new alternative version of the origin of the Palace.
And then I touched one theory presented in this book about the well, the deepest 15 meters, located on the Palace grounds. It said that they could be descents into the underground passages, which were full of all of Icheri Sheher. But the most important thing is that when the construction of this complex, these wells are not filled with stones to increase the usable area for buildings, but rather saved them. The question arose: why the Sufi order, whose residence was on the territory of the Palace, has retained these wells? Whether he knew about the room under the tower? If he went down there? Alas, this is unknown. And even if there is the space there? Yes, it was the most important thing at the moment is to find at least some indications of the room under the tower. In addition, the underground tunnels mentioned and the Amateur historian Fuad Akhundov, who helped the artist Ismail Mammadov to draw a map of Icheri Sheher with all the architectural monuments.
This is the place where now is the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, that is, a rock from ancient times, even pre-Islamic, was sacred. And, as you know, the whole city Ateshi-Baguan (Baku), and most importantly, and its symbol is the Maiden Tower from ancient times was the center of religion of Zoroastrianism is the main religious center in Azerbaijan, and not only. During the research I learned that the tower was dedicated to the goddess of fertility – Anahita. That’s when it’s time to act.
Further study of the problem went based on the study of various religious documents, esoteric traditions and mythology. The goddess Anahita, as far as I know, is the same as the Sumerian Inanna and Akkadian Ishtar, is the Great Mother fertility goddess under various names, which in ancient times was worshipped throughout the middle East. Throughout this territory, and not only, were found numerous cult statues of the so-called “Venus” – the goddess of fertility. Happened this cult from the ancient Sumerians, who after the Great flood left the Caucasus and settled in Mesopotamia. The cult of the great Goddess was closely associated with the vernal equinox – March 22. This is a New year festival that celebrated the ancient Sumerians, that is, the current Novruz Bayram.
Similarly, the Maiden Tower was associated with this holiday. Then I thought, what the cult of the Goddess and her festival is the audience under the Maiden Tower. Maybe this is the explanation of why a tower must be room? It all gradually began to take its meaning, when I stumbled upon the myth, which said that the goddess of fertility Ishtar (Anahita) descends into the underworld through the seven gates that led into the depths of the dungeon. At the first gate it was removed from the crown, the second ring, the third – a necklace, a fourth – decorating with chest, fifth – belt, sixth – bracelets with legs and arms, the seventh – Cape from the body. Ishtar protesting every time she took a regular thing, but she said it was normal procedure (dedication) for everyone who enters the abode of death. Enraged at the appearance of Ishtar, the mistress of the dungeon brought on her illness and thrown into a dungeon.
Because Ishtar represented the spirit of fertility, her disappearance stopped the ripening and growth of all life on earth… the Gods, realizing that the loss of Ishtar threatens to decline all Nature, sent its representative to the underworld and demanded its release. When Ishtar was released, she again went through all 7 gates, holding a vessel of living water, and brought life to earth. Here then for the first time and it was noted the celebration of Novruz by the ancient Sumerians, on 22 March, the vernal equinox.
After a short introduction view now on the Maiden Tower. It has seven levels. You ask why seven, because they were eight. Eight storeys is considered to be today, when the true purpose of the Tower is still not clear. But in those days, when the tower was in the center of the dawn of the religion of Zoroastrianism, first floor Baku towers had no direct connection with the ritual purpose. It was ahead, where was the ladder leading to the upper floors. The actual temple was started in the second floor, that is, in those days the first floor of the altar of the temple. In the days of Zoroastrianism in the Tower is not considered, 8, and 7 sacred floors, symbolizing the 7 levels of initiation, that is, consecration: through the goddess Ishtar. By the way, the number 7 is the number of Venus, that explains a lot.
Inspired by my study, I assumed that the tower is fraught with encoded information, ie is like a “stone book”, you need to read, knowing what language it was written. And then I decided to count how many stripes on the tower and the ledge. So, on the tower 31 band, and the ledge 24. The difference between these two numbers equal 7. This suggests that these numbers have a relationship between themselves and the number 7 plays an important role. Adding these numbers(31+24=55), I got number 55. And it was fifty-five day fasting Zoroastrians.
The fact that in times of Zoroastrianism repeated this tradition of initiation, derived from the Sumerians, where the candidate, like Ishtar entered a dungeon or a cave symbolizing the underworld, had to endure some of the trials that have ended the post in 55 days. It was introduced in the inner room, where he was purified with fire and water, and then passed the 7 degrees of initiation. After initiation, the applicant took the usual obligation to keep in secret the faith of Zoroaster. Can we assume that this dedication ceremony was the entry into some kind of order that existed for the sake of some secrets. Isn’t it the question arises: what was it that kept the ancient Sumerians?
So, the tower began to succumb. The first numbers are linked, where 7(the number of floors of the altar) the most basic, and therefore sacred. Indeed, in the mystical worship of Mithras was “seven gates,” seven altars and the seven sacraments. The same thing we see and the Maiden Tower – 7 floors, symbolizing the 7 gates, they are 7 altars, where he committed 7 sacraments. And the initiation rites of the cult of Mithras, which is a simplification of a more subtle and more developed doctrines of Zoroaster, were always in a dungeon, where there were sanctuaries of this cult, and in each sanctuary was a staircase in 7 steps, which were part of the abode of bliss. In addition, it is known that Zarathustra (Zoroaster) was the first who focused on the cave as the place to worship God. Speaking of the dungeon. If, as already seen, the tower was built according to the ancient Sumerian tradition of passing 7 through the Ishtar gate in the dungeon, then somewhere in the architecture of the tower should be a designation of the premises. And this just is. It is the height of the tower is 28 meters. In esoteric tradition, the number 28 was the sacred number of the lower world, i.e. the underworld, which is this number and designated. And if the tower was built according to these traditions, then we can say with confidence that under the tower there is an undiscovered room. If, as I mentioned above 7 is basic, and the number 28 comes from him. If you add up the number of each floor of the Maiden Tower, i.e. the numbers from 1 to 7, we get the height of the tower is 28 meters. This again suggests that the number in the construction of the tower was taken and embedded in it is not a coincidence. Even impossible to deprive and 9 Windows of the tower. Associate Windows with 7 floors and what do we get? We get the diameter of the tower is 16 meters (9+7=16).
So, simple math of studies have shown a link between numbers and identified the affiliation of the Tower to the ancient esoteric teachings. See for yourself: the number 7 is associated with the underworld and has always been the number of initiation that symbolizes the way in this underworld, and the number 28 always in ancient times was the sacred number of the underworld. You catch my drift? The number 7 is the path to the dungeon, and the number 28 is itself a dungeon. And the number 55, obtained by addition of 31 and 24 are the post after passing the way – 7. Then it is clear why historically about this room are not recorded anywhere and was not mentioned, it would be contrary to the ancient esoteric teachings, always hiding the secret meaning from the uninitiated. Therefore of him nothing is known, but this does not mean that it is not. And to find it, there need not Orthodox historical knowledge, but a special logic and intelligence, t need to see not with the eyes but with the mind. Only then can we uncover the true meaning of the Maiden Tower. The philosophy of the architecture of the Maiden Tower, follows the ancient tradition of the New Year, i.e. updates and says that under it is something that can change our history, ie, update it, and is able to influence the course of future historical events. Remember the myth: “…she again went through all 7 gates, holding a vessel of living water, and brought life to the earth.” A myth is a reflection of the validity in the primitive consciousness, embodied in characteristic of ancient oral folk art. Otherwise, why in ancient times someone had to undergo initiation and to keep the secret of Zoroaster.
In addition, the Azerbaijani physicist Vagit Alekperov, has long engaged in the mysteries of the Maiden Tower, based on the results of the use of biolocation method of search, found under the tower some power fluctuations and the flow of life-giving bio-energy emanating from somewhere under the tower, and also suggested that there is a room in which there is healing spring or perhaps the tomb of Zoroaster.
So, as shown by various studies under the tower is something waiting to be discovered. Well, she the Maiden’s Tower requires more and more study from different sides and a huge attention to himself, which is now long gone, some eminent academicians, but is present among researchers and enthusiasts, whose spirit does not stop there, but continues to move forward despite conflicting opinions, leaving behind hope and inspiring new research and discoveries that are waiting in the wings. Use all avenues of approach to the study of how fabulous they may seem and don’t give up hope, for she is the last to die.
